Pathway

How we support your journey

Flow Evolution’s Pathway programme is designed to ultimately enhance your life experience through Flow practice and peak experiences in the Great Outdoors.  Bringing accelerated learning techniques, dynamic training sessions and adventure activities to your Flow journey. The programme provides you with a safe and structured training platform, drawing on leading scientific research and the professional experience of our trainers and facilitators.

Combining generalised movement training with Flow, your body can become more versatile in pursuing activities that allow you to express yourself freely in life.  Flow Evolution’s integrated training method leverages the challenges placed on us when in nature to activate ‘dormant’ abilities, such as intuition or creativity. Those which are less prevalent in our daily lives, perhaps forgotten, due to the heavily structured and logical focus of our education and working environments.

Experiencing Flow during adventure activities balances the creative (right) and logical (left) functioning in your brain.  This creates new opportunities in the mind and renewed perspectives about yourself which can support positive growth and fulfilment.

It is this reciprocal relationship the mind has with the body which Flow Evolution draws attention to, exploring innovative ways of optimal functioning and peak performance in the adventure recreation arena.

Flow Evolutions unique 3 STEP method takes you on a progressive journey through the Flow experience.  The programme facilitates a guided discovery approach to self-development, encouraging you to work to your strengths and learn to trust your intuition with every challenge.

To understand our own true nature,

we must go back to Nature

The Pathway Fundamentals.

The Flow Evolution Pathway helps you learn and apply Flow in your life fast, so you can perform at your best and have a positive learning experience on our adventure programmes.  First, it’s important to understand what Flow really is and how it occurs from one of our interactive FLOW TALKS. Once you can recognise the opportunities Flow presents, you can then begin to learn how to integrate this into your life more effectively.

As Flow requires both physical movement and awareness in the mind, both are developed throughout the programme to help you match the challenges on the day and explore with confidence.  This new found perception of the outdoors, and you in it, is very empowering and will ultimately bring to you the realisation that you are already expressing your full potential; this is the moment you start living your life to the fullest.

We believe it’s this insight that reinforces those personal values and beliefs you hold as meaningful, redirecting your energies towards what matters most in your life and giving you the conviction to make this your new reality.  The Flow Evolution Pathway will help you to reprioritise your personal beliefs, built on a solid mental and physical foundation that will empower you to create positive change in your life, whilst being more connected to other people and the natural world.

* Flow Evolution recommends our weekly FLOBALL™ training sessions to develop the physical and mental qualities of Flow, preparing you for the next adventure activity.

What is generalised movement training?

This is a form of training that focusses on developing entire movement patterns, which the body uses to perform and adapt in a dynamic activity such as rock climbing, surfing or trail running.  This is similar to sports specific skills training, however, it’s less restricted to standardised methods of technique training and controlled environments.    You also learn how to function well when outside of the boundaries of ‘correct’ technique as well as remain composed and recover your control quickly. The nature of adventure sports and activities involves playing with risk and adapting quickly to changing conditions.  Generalised movement training brings you a step closer to the real experience, whilst strengthening your mind and body to match the challenge of your next adventure.

Why is generalised movement training more FUNctional?

Generalised movement training improves your ability to take on new and known challenges with greater confidence.  This is not to say that you don’t train those specific skills and muscles for your regular sport, quite the opposite, in fact, a broader approach to training means you can explore your activity more dynamically or transfer those skills when trying something new – which can be fun too.

All movement has a function, however, not all movements develop the skills (movement patterning) to allow your body to move as you would like.  Actually, due to the nature of modern sedentary work and life habits, many people seldom get the opportunity to move in ways that keep them able and adaptable to new challenges.  Even highly conditioned and specialised sportsmen and woman can have poor general movement ability, meaning they can’t perform well in other sports or participate with their family in fun physical experiences.  This can keep you ‘stuck’ in the same patterns of behaviour which, if not serving you anymore can become very difficult to change.  A concerning and all to familiar example is poor posture, resulting in limited mobility of the torso and limbs and/or weak core stability.  This reduces your ability to move naturally with ease and often leads to injury, creating a vicious circle.

Flow Evolution recognises that the generalised physical ability of the body is both functional in supporting your preferred activity whilst allowing you to perform better in other activities.  This gives you greater choice and adaptability in what you can do in your life and feel more confident to handle unpredictable situations should they occur.  This increased freedom through movement can then enhance the way you view yourself and the world in your mind, helping to determine its perceived quality and the meaning we derive from our experiences.

Why your mind matters?

Our minds are extremely complex, with numerous thoughts and emotions experienced in response to what is happening around us.  This can become intense and overwhelming depending on how we are perceiving the situation or how we are able to manage our mental state at the time.  We can become over excited, anxious or even bored, all of which triggers our minds into less optimal states when performing a task. Understanding the nature of our mind, its thinking patterns and responses to relevant stimuli during an activity can help to identify these triggers that take us out of Flow.

Our brains have been largely conditioned through the educational system to work logically, requiring so much thinking in order to perform a task.  This interferes with our ability to enter and maintain our Flow as we are caught is the vicious cycle of constant analysis and comparison to previous experiences – a very left brain function.

The Flow Evolution Pathway helps you to rely less on critical thinking to make every decision and develop your ability to respond faster and more efficiently during challenging situations.  When your mind is free from excessive thinking and trusted to already know what needs to be done, we access flow easily.  Here we experience a heightened awareness of ourselves performing the task and the ability to make the necessary adjustments required instantly without hesitation – keeping the flow going.

Why outdoor adventure outings?

Modern life with all its complexities and choices is stressful, even confusing sometimes. Adventures in the outdoors are less predictable, so we have to be able to adapt quicker if we are to perform well and overcome the challenges in front of us.

We tend to be calmer and able to focus better when in a more natural environment too, all our senses are having to work together to read the situation so we can manage any risk, remain alert and apply our skills well.  Nature also reminds us to slow down, tune in to our own environment and become part of it, trusting our innate abilities which we learnt as a child in the outdoors. This can offer the opportunity to access Flow more frequently and learn more about ourselves as a result….it’s also a lot of fun.

Flow Evolution also believes that through learning to feel more comfortable in our natural surrounds and appreciating its supportive role in our development, we will seek more sustainable ways of living to look after it.  This in turn would build a growing community committed to supporting sustainability and conservation projects in order to preserve it for future generations.
